I have been working on the theatre play The Seagull, by Anton Chekhov, because I had a special interest in silence as places of creation and imagination. I replaced the punctuation with black squares of different width, representing pauses in the text. Placed on the back on the paper, they would interact with the text and when turning the page, they create a rhythm. I also tried to create a kind of suspense, using empty pages, sometimes folded or screwed up in a particular way, between the acts of this play. Then, I had to think again about the space and format of the page, and I did a book where the size of the page depends on the length of a conversation and the length of the sentences.

Global Face
Human identity has become a global issue, especially for people who have mixed parentage, or their parents were immigrants. These individuals often struggle with their internal and external sense of identity. I attempted to document ethnic and gender diversity by tiling images of faces and thus exposing identity expectations and allowing the viewer to understand his or her own identity presumptions. The analysis of facial symmetry is done with the biometric technology of international security institutes that measures the distance between human eyes.

Being inspired by the first project (Make the Rules, Break the Rules) that allowed me to start my journey of documenting unpredictable results and uncertainty, I had explored different ways of visualising information. This project is a personal reflection of my exploration of the city of London.
It began with a book I made in the first term about getting lost and resulted in the visual recording of my walks through the city of London. I built an interactive laser-cut 'map table' with a web camera underneath it that registered when the map is folder and triggered a corresponding, projected Flash animation I created of drawings I made at specific points through the city.

My approach was to take very subjective portraitures. To achieve this I attached a camera obscura to glasses, which replaced my left eye, I usually focus with. Everything I would do, every laughter, would have an influence on the result.
I was as well interested not to shoot frame after frame but to blur the boundaries between photography and film. I wound a whole film through and decided to stop for longer at certain points that seemed interesting to me.
The result reminds me of memory spaces.
The pictures shown are portraits of my flatmates: Phillipe building violins, Martha reading a book, Ivan working at his Computer.

My project is about the renewable energies in Greece. Through my work I tried to show how much energy is produced by the exploitation of the renewable sources in Greece and compare these data with those of other countries. My first poster shows how the prefectures of Greece are provided with energy. Each prefecture has a certain amount of substations which feed with energy the area they are located and other areas close to it. My next poster shows the consumption of energy (in %) by fuel in all European countries and the last one shows the total production of renewable energy, the energy which is produced by the exploitation of each one of the renewable sources and finally the consumption of energy in all European countries.

Everything happens for a reason
With a background in philosophy, I chose the theme “everything happens for a reason” as I find it especially intriguing. I am fascinated by the long chain of seemingly unimportant events that result in the momentous occasions of our lives. I am particularly interested by the rippling, domino effect of this process.

How it works:
The viewers communicate to the computer through the box with the puppet hadler, by rotating the box both ways down the longest side. The user gets an idea that he has control over something that will be on the screen. The butterfly on the screen moves only when the box is not still, and lands randomly, causing absolutly random and unpredictable connection between the people in the bottom window, “the viewers”. Whenever a new connection is created, a book that lies on the side reacts, by opening the next page and letting the user to leave his thoughts on it. In the end, book should look like a game, the one where people write one sentence each and then hide it from the next player, until the end. They read the full, usually funny weird story after everybody is done. Everything happens for a reason.

Samples are considered to be the core of hip-hop songs and the art of sampling is one of the foundations of hip-hop. This interactive system explores and highlights the evolution in sampling as well as providing information. The user can compare and analyze the use of sampling or just look up statistics. He or she can also explore the different usage of sampling by year or era in hip-hop or by genre or year.

Parrallel Universes
Becoming part of a course with 67 people from 27 different countries was my interest from the moment I set foot in CSM. I have this rare chance in life for extraordinary communication and exchange. I saw us, like many single universes standing one next to another, as a group of birds on a wire. Moving on in perfect parallel, we have this common interest – school - but at the same time, the diversity of our backgrounds makes us so contrastive. I wanted to explore how we think, behave and communicate in this new environment. I am curious about the individual personality and the interaction between us. Meeting every single person of my own course for an hour chat, taking photographs of them, is essential for me and makes my process of work engaging and stimulating.

This project is called Type/Face and the idea that underlies my work is “personalization”. I created a new system that allows each individual to adapt ready-made typefaces to their own facial features, thus obtaining a personalized font, their own version of a preexisting one.
The process goes as follows: using a photograph, a special software recognizes certain facial points (like the distances between the eyes, the lips and the nose, etc) and after that it creates a grid to which the letters and symbols of a selected typeface are adapted. In the future I would like to continue studying the range of benefits that Graphic Design can gain from personalization.

The Hungarian Holy Crown
The visualization of the Hungarian Holy Crown was a project where I experimented with the two-dimensional display form of the Crown, taking inspiration from blueprints and deconstructive drawings. By leaving the layout colourless and creating a decorative informational image I intended to reflect upon the composition and balance behind the object, which was built according to the Golden Section. For the end result I designed a poster that includes the layout of the Hungarian Holy Crown and for comparison the coloured silhouettes of the front and side view that correspond to the colours of the stones on each side.

Through research into the possible use of, often wasted power generated through passive and ambient actions around the house and in the broader environment, I wanted to explore how this could be represented in an interactive installation. Some other sources of energy were the minute packets of electrical charge created by running a water tap, burning a candle, brushing your hair or kinetic energy generated through walking and cycling. Experimentation with electrical charges and physical computing directed me to the use of new materials, both organic and inorganic. I have found that aleatoric sound patterns are often not so aleatoric, that within the seeming randomness there are often reoccurring crossing points. At these points observation and listening can stimulate an interactive experience outside the way we normally perceive and react to sound.

Plimsolls
The process of creative appropriation of spaces and objects is the theme I am confronting in my practice. I photographed the shift from something neutral to personal. To realize my project, I used seven pairs of identical white trainers, worn by seven young women (ages 23-27), for four days before photographing them. I asked my course mates to participate in the project, as I was interested in ways they would personalize those originally identical objects. It may be interpreted as a comment on the search for individual ways of creative expression.

The premise of this project was to investigate different forms of voice/sound communication through physical interaction solutions. This involved looking at the way in which different vocal characteristics of a speaker/singer can vary or modify the meaning of a speech/music.

I found the best method was to create a fictitious interactive radio broadcast. This way I was able to deal with different aspects I was interested in within a single object. Radio broadcasting gave me different channels (situations/ideas) and the ability to distort them based on the user’s interaction. At the same time it was allowed me to incorporate fluid and dynamic interaction in a real space through an ultrasonic sensor that was able to detect changing distances between itself and the user.

Words Through Time
This book is the collection of quotations from approximately 100 B.C. to 1950, and is divided into four categories that are marked as time, time and life, time and love, and time and ruin. Time is invisible, yet we see evidence of it. Time is cyclic: the journey of the sun during a day, the waxing and waning of the moon, the cycle of the seasons. The circle has gradually become the symbol of time.

In my studio work I am exploring private/intimate and public/commercial aspects of sexuality and relationships. Although sex is fundamentally an intimate thing, our culture has a new sense of ‘public intimacy’ and boundaries between public and private are shifting if not dissolving.

“This is where the magic happens” is often said when describing one’s bedroom but I am photographing places that were created for sex but are not in the privacy of your home, including brothels and swingerclubs. I wanted to remove the people and remove the love/relationship factor and document the raw essence of these locations.

My project is an exploration of the reproduction of images via different printing and finishing techniques on various materials. I’ve explored screen printing on paper, fabrics, aluminum, pvc and other materials; laser cut on plywood and polyester; computer numeric controlled onto plexiglass and digitally printed on cotton canvas. The content of my illustrations are events that take place in the brain, such as fantasy, brainstorming, imagination, dreams and the brain itself. The creation of these images starts with a tridimensional composition that becomes illustration through photography.

Imperfection is all around us. In both humans and the natural world it produces diversity, and pushes us forward. Some say it is the truest form of creativity or self-expression. The last few months have seen me exploring ideas around embracing imperfection. I've been fascinated with spelling mistakes, editing mistakes and imperfections in the creative process. Ultimately, though, I was drawn to the imperfections in the food we eat, and the regulations surrounding the aesthetics of perfectly edible produce which is thrown away simply because it doesn't look good. This amounts to over 20% of food waste in the EU, and is a travesty for those who like their produce a little different... surely a wonky carrot is more interesting than a perfectly straight one? But with such laughably inane and unsophisticated subject matter it was difficult producing something philosophically and aesthetically profound. Herein lies the paradox - you can talk about wanting to celebrate ugliness, but you better damn well sure it looks good! I produced a book, an installation and a series of photographic explorations. With the book, pages within it acted like EU enforcers, determining what we saw on the following page. In my photography, I systematically took hundreds of pictures of the surface of an 'acceptable' and an 'unacceptable' apple to try to examine exactly where this difference in acceptability lay. My installation used 'perfect' digitally printed and 'imperfect' screen-printed text to examine the laws further.

The Shape of Time
This project is about time perception in different ages. It is based on a Logarithmic time perception theory, which states that the same space of time seems shorter as we grow older. I have created my own interpretation of the logarithmic scale, using geometric shapes as an illustration. The book with the cuttings represents the three perceptive lengths of a year – that is the longest year of a ten-year old person; the middle shape stands for a forty-year old person (same as a calendar year) and the shortest year of a seventy-year old person. The book ‘The Shape and The Colour of Time’ is based on the three questions from a survey I did about time perception in different ages. People were asked to draw a shape, chose a colour of their year and give a definition of time.

In this series of drawings called Sexy Fruit I am creating a layer of meaning beyond what is visible to the naked eye. Sexuality is woven into the fabric of my drawings. The language of porn, or rather the little dialogue there is in pornographic movies, has always been inadvertently funny and clumsy. I am using titles or quotations of porn movies to generate images. For example, in the creampie I drew one might just see a piece of pastry. The alert eye, however, will discover something slightly more interesting.

The settlement of Yemeni Seafarers in Cardiff. Muslim communities began to settle in Britain during the late 19th Century after the opening of the Suez Canal. The largest settlements were in port cities, in particularly Cardiff in Wales. During the first term of my MA I have done thorough research into the history of Islam in Bute Town Cardiff. I have collected various photographs and anecdotal stories in hope to create a book and possibly a sound and moving image instillation. For this term I have created a ‘Community Tree’ showing the connections of how the Islamic faith established itself within a foreign community.
